I started training with Rob a year ago. Having never really done any regular exercise, I started with the ambition of strengthening my arms, core and especially my knees (as I have dislocated my knee several times). More recently, having seen someone on the tube do a "chin-up", I set myself a goal to be able to do one myself! Rob has been brilliant - he pays great attention to setting the right exercises and gradually builds them up. He understands how the body works to ensure that all muscles are developed properly and there is no strain or damage caused. He has willingly taken on my challenge of doing a chin up with us both wanting to succeed! More importantly, Rob is not only knowledgeable in what he does, but very kind, considerate and extremely hard-working. He also makes exercising fun and is full of encouragement. It has made a big difference to me over the last year. My knees are stronger and I am now able to walk downhill feeling much more secure. My strength has improved and I can see more tone in my arms. I can see improvement in trying to do my chin-up (although I had no idea how difficult it was going to be!) However, with Rob's help, I am determined to succeed! I started PT sessions with Rob after being diagnosed with a lower back disc problem, as a result of which I suffered attacks of debilitating pain, meaning I struggled to walk for week at a time. I do a sedentary desk job, meaning I am often static, sitting for long periods during the day. During the initial assessment, he listened to my issues, reviewed my MRI report and designed a structured, bespoke training plan for me, to work on specific areas I need to strengthen. My spine is still vulnerable - but he is mindful of that. He always listens to me when I tell him any exercise is niggling it, and provides an alternative. It is this imagination and flexibility, combined with a passion for physical and mental wellness, which marks him out as a truly excellent trainer. His attention to detail and ensuring good form during exercises is also outstanding. I haven't suffered a back pain attack since we started working together 8 weeks ago, which is testament to how much working with him has improved things. I can't recommend him highly enough! As an older person (more than seventy) and finding that I was less able to do the activities that I enjoyed, a friend and I decided to try out planned exercises with a personal trainer at a gym. We hoped that our joints that needed some “oiling” would benefit and that our strength, balance and fitness would improve. Having never been to a gym or followed a structured programme of training, we were very apprehensive - this was not going to be “our thing”, we thought. Our meeting and assessment with Robert was very reassuring. He asked us about our aims for training and listened carefully, telling us that he could organise a programme for us that would help to improve our mobility and core strength. It was clear that he would plan in our particular physical “foibles” and change the exercises he had thought out for us as necessary, adapting exercises to suit our physical capabilities. We are now on our third ‘round’ of our twice-weekly sessions with Robert and he is always encouraging, but also pushes us to achieve more during the exercise sessions. Planned exercises are modified if too challenging, and Robert supervises us carefully, making sure that we are holding a position correctly during each group of movements. Despite my doubts, my gym sessions are helping and I’m grateful for Robert’s commitment and knowledge in the improvement of my physical well-being.
